How it works
The Dermapen is a hand-held medical device for clinic use. It has a disposable piece that is inserted into the top of the device that contains many tiny sterile needles. These needles penetrate into the skin at different levels depending on the part of the face, depth of scar or the condition being treated. This causes a micro injury to the skin which is turn causes healing. This healing releases new collagen and elastin and growth factors, which cause the remodelling & breaking down old of collagen and scar tissue.
This micro injury also allows temporary fine channels to be created in the skin. These channels carry up to 80% more topical nutrients for delivery deep within the fibroblasts to feed the underlying cells found in the deeper layers of the skin. This increased and even absorption of the active ingredients used during treatment into the skin creates stimulated repair and faster resurfacing and faster healing results.
After treatment, the thousands of little microscopic needle points in your skin close within the hour. Your skin then initiates a repair and stimulation process that goes on over many weeks, resulting in improved skin texture and fewer fine lines and wrinkles. Does it hurt?
No, not at all. Prior to your Dermapen treatment, we will remove make-up and deeply cleanse your skin using an antiseptic and apply an anaesthetic cream until your skin is numb. This makes the whole process pain free. You will feel the Dermapen on your skin, so you will feel sensation, but no pain.
How Many Treatments will I need?
Every person is different and the number of treatments needed does vary depending on the condition being treated, but the following are very good guidelines:
- Acne Scarring – 4-6 Treatments, 4 – 6 weeks apart.
- Skin Rejuvenation/Collagen Induction – 4-6 Treatments, 4 weeks apart.
- Stretch Marks – Approx. 4-6 Treatments, 6 weeks apart.
What can I expect after treatment?
The treated area will be red for 12-48 hours and your skin may feel warmer and tighter than usual. You should keep your face free of make-up that day. After that the redness can be minimised with a concealer. The skin may flake slightly 2-3 days after the procedure.
