HIEMS MAX EMS Sculpt muscle stimulation machine at Beautiful World in Whitton, Twickenham

Understanding EMS

What is EMS Sculpt?

EMS stands for electrical muscle stimulation. Our HIEMS MAX system offers muscle-stimulation programmes using external applicators, which are positioned over the agreed area and held in place with straps. You will feel repeated contractions as the muscles are stimulated.

Muscle stimulation can temporarily tone muscles. Responses vary and repeated sessions may be needed to maintain any effect. This is a fitness-focused service that complements an active lifestyle; it is not a replacement for regular exercise or a weight-loss treatment.

Our machine is the EMS12-1W-MAX4, shown above. We will explain the programme and discuss whether it is appropriate for you before you proceed.

  4. Aftercare: discuss how you feel afterwards and any advice or follow-up appropriate to your session.

Before you book

Is EMS Sculpt suitable for me?

A consultation is required. This service is not suitable during pregnancy or for people with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device. Tell us about any metal implants, including dental metal, so these can be checked against the machine’s instructions.

You must also tell us about heart disease, high blood pressure, a history of blood clots, epilepsy, cancer, kidney disease, bleeding disorders, active infection, immune conditions, reduced sensation, recent surgery or an injury in the proposed area. Your practitioner will check the full contraindications and may advise that you seek medical advice before booking.

Possible unwanted effects include discomfort, skin irritation, bruising or pain. Muscle-stimulation devices can also cause burns or interfere with implanted devices. Stop the session and tell your practitioner if anything feels wrong. Contact us if you have concerns afterwards; seek medical advice for severe or persistent symptoms.

Useful information

Your questions answered

What does EMS Sculpt feel like?

You will feel repeated muscle contractions, which may feel like pulling, tightening or tapping. The intensity should be adjusted to your tolerance. Treatment should not be continued through pain.

Does it involve needles or surgery?

No. The applicators are placed externally and held in position with straps. There are no injections or incisions.

How long is the appointment?

We allocate a 45-minute appointment slot. The time using the applicators is set individually and will be explained before your session.

How many sessions will I need?

We offer a single session and a three-session option. The appropriate plan and interval depend on your assessment, tolerance and response. A package does not guarantee a particular result.

Will it help me lose weight or replace the gym?

We do not offer EMS Sculpt as a weight-loss or fat-removal treatment. It should not replace regular exercise, a balanced diet or medical advice. We do not promise a particular reduction in weight, inches or body fat.

Is this a medical rehabilitation treatment?

No. This machine is intended for fitness use. If you need help with an injury, weakness or a medical condition, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.
